IPSO, the press ‘regulator’ favoured by Murdoch and Dacre, has launched a ‘kitemark’, to appear as a ‘badge of honour’ on the pages and websites of its members. Given its failure to tackle the Nazi hate speech of its own board member, Trevor Kavanagh, you’d think IPSO would want a low profile now, but apparently not. So here is the official badge of dishonour:
Strange for a regulator to emphasise to the public the freedom of those it regulates. As for responsibility, IPSO can’t be said to hold the Sun, Mail or Express (to name but three) responsible for what they do. So it’s easy to think of IPSO kitemarks with messages that more accurately reflect the reality, and here are a few. IPSO members, feel free to publish these on your pages.
